CHICAGO — A SWAT situation involving CPD on the city’s Far South Side early Thursday morning ended with three arrests.

Authorities have not provided updates on what triggered the SWAT response, but a heavy police presence was spotted at the Altgeld Gardens apartments in Riverdale on Thursday morning.

Officers initially responded to the scene alone, but eventually called in the help of the SWAT team.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 7:45 a.m. when officers could be seen in two different areas of the complex.

In one area near a Chicago Public Library building along South Ellis Avenue, officers appeared to have positioned themselves around a building while in another area near East 130th Place and South Evans Avenue, officers could be seen near a car that had partially driven up onto the curb.

Police have not yet confirmed if the scenes were connected.

In an update shared around 11:20 a.m., officers said the SWAT situation had ended and three people were taken into custody in connection with the incident.

Currently, it is unclear what sparked the situation.
