The jury deliberated for more than two hours before finding Tra’tavion Jermaine Turner, 26, guilty of third-degree rape.
According to reports, the assault occurred after Turner asked to use the victim’s phone.
Jurors heard testimony during the trial, which began on Monday, June 9, regarding Turner’s prior conviction for a sex offense involving children. The victim spoke, one of her parents, an advocate from the Gingerbread House and four Shreveport police officers.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Fernando Grider Jr. and Kodie K. Smith.
When Turner returns to Judge Emanuel’s courtroom on June 23, he faces a sentence of up to 25 years in prison at hard labor, without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
