Pennsylvania men convicted in carjacking of FedEx truck

PHILADELPHIA COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Two Pennsylvania men were convicted at trial on federal charges in connection with the armed carjacking of a FedEx truck, authorities said Wednesday.

Ronald Byrd, 37, and Saikeen Dixon, 32, both of Philadelphia, were convicted Wednesday of carjacking and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, the men had been charged in connection with the August 10, 2022 carjacking of a FedEx Express truck at Temple Hospital in Philadelphia.

Authorities said a package had been sent from California to a supposed medical company with an address at Temple Hospital.

A former FedEx employee contacted the driver asking for the package and offering $5,000 for it. The driver refused and called his supervisors, who arrived later and took the package with them.

A black Jeep was later seen following the truck, pulling in front at a red light as Byrd exited and aimed a firearm at the driver. Byrd was then accused of taking the FedEx truck, driving over the Grays Ferry Bridge with Dixon following being in the Jeep.

The package, still with FedEx, alerted a trained narcotics K9 and a search warrant and subsequent search located nine kilograms of cocaine.
