According to police, the officer was in full bicycle uniform performing crowd control duties. He was using a department-issued bicycle to maintain a perimeter during an unrelated arrest near the 1000 block of Market Street. Around 7 p.m., police say a man in the crowd threw an orange traffic cone, hitting the officer in the head. The officer was wearing a helmet and was uninjured.
Another officer who witnessed the assault took a man into custody without incident. However, he was later released without charges after investigators determined he was not responsible for the assault.
Police have released images on Wednesday afternoon of the man they believe is responsible for the assault.
