According to court documents recently filed in Delaware County, 24-year-old Ethan Davies has been charged with one count of rape, when victim is unaware of the defendant’s actions, a Level 3 felony.
On July 27, 2024, officers with the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to a home on W. Beechwood Avenue in reference to a reported rape.
The documents stated that a woman spoke to officers at that time about a reported incident on the night of her college graduation. On the evening of May 5, 2024, she reportedly told police that she was raped by Davies, a mentor of hers.
The woman told police that Davies was reportedly in town for the graduation ceremony and asked to go home with her that evening. The documents said the woman agreed but made it “very clear that she just wanted to go home and go to bed.”
The two reportedly kissed a few times and then she fell asleep. The woman told police that she didn’t think of Davies as anything other than a friend and mentor.
“(She) fell asleep until she woke up to (Davies) having sexual intercourse with her,” the documents read. “(She) reported that she asked (Davies) what he was doing and he stopped.”
The documents stated that Davies reportedly apologized to the woman, offered to purchase Plan B for her and sent her $25 via Venmo the next day, a receipt for which the woman kept and showed law enforcement.
The woman reportedly told police that she did not report the rape right away because she wanted to speak with her family first. The woman reportedly told her roommates what happened that night.
The court documents stated that the Delaware County Clerk received a $20,000 surety bond on Tuesday concerning this case. Davies’ initial hearing is scheduled for July 10 in Delaware County Court.
