According to officials with Citizens Energy, the water main break occurred on Thursday morning near the intersection of Morris Street and Lynhurst Drive.
Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in a post on social media that the intersection of Lynhurst and Morris is expected to be closed “for most of the day” because of the main break, encouraging drivers to find alternate routes.
“Crews will work continuously to isolate the issue and make the repair, after which they will work to reopen the roadway and complete any clean-up,” officials with Citizens Energy said in a statement to FOX59/CBS4. “We are working to map the number of customers who may be impacted by the break, and we will provide further updates on this situation as it develops.”
In an update from Citizens Energy, officials said that the water main break was 12 inches and has been isolated as of around 9:33 a.m. on Thursday.
“The break has now been isolated and nearby customers should not be experiencing any water pressure issues,” the update read. “About 20 customers will continue to be impacted while crews complete the fix to the main.”
Officials said that the area is expected to be closed through the evening rush hour. Property owners within the area will be allowed access to their homes.
