Summer ferry pilot program to launch in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority has announced that it’s bringing a summer pilot program to the ferry in New Orleans, extending evening ferry service on the Algiers-Canal Street route.

According to RTA officials, the updated evening service is being done in partnership with LabMar Ferry Services and will start on June 15, lasting through Sept 27. Rides will cost $2 and run seven days a week, departing every 15 minutes. The expanded evening service is as follows:

  • East Bank (Canal Street): until 12:15 a.m.
  • West Bank (Algiers): until 12:00 a.m.
  • Previously Sunday through Thursday until 8:45 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10:45 p.m.

Summer was reportedly chosen for the pilot program due to the lower volume of tourists in the city, making it easier to isolate and measure usage of the service for future planning.

For more information about the program, visit the New Orleans RTA’s website or download the Le Pass app.
