On Friday, June 6, police launched an investigation and arrested Lakisha Walter after a minor reported alleged physical abuse and possible human trafficking. According to the police, an investigation revealed that Walter had engaged in sexual activity in front of an eight-year-old child on multiple occasions. It was also found that she had used dangerous controlled substances in front of the minors, exposing some of the children to marijuana and alcohol.
Officers noted that the children frequently reported sleeping on the floor. Additionally, there was no working refrigerator or edible food items in the home. Police found spoiled food, including noodles infested with maggots.
Walter has been charged with five counts of criminal neglect of family, four counts of controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor, three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
All five juveniles were placed into state custody for their safety. Additional charges may be applied pending the outcome of an investigation.
