Saints head coach Kellen Moore recaps first day of mandatory minicamp

METAIRIE (WGNO) – The Black and Gold held their first practice of mandatory minicamp Tuesday afternoon, and although the 90-degree temperatures created an intense environment, head coach Kellen Moore had no problems weathering the heat.

“I think it was good. Guys were focused. Guys were going for it. I think that was the big thing was this was going to test everyone so it was a good thing for us,” Moore said.

The Saints weren’t the only people drenched in sweat though. Tuesday’s practice was open to the public, and Who Dat Nation’s presence

“The fan aspect of this is awesome, and it’s really, really cool. It’s impressive to see that on a Tuesday in the middle of June that we can reach capacity here and have a great turnout,” the head coach continued.

Many of the fans’ cheers were directed at veteran players, like Alvin Kamara and Tyrann Mathieu, and having the teams’ more seasoned players hit the practice field for the first time this off-season gave an added boost to Tuesday’s session.

“When you see those guys come out here, and work their tails off and do everything you ask, those guys lead by example and it shows up throughout the entire team,” Moore furthered.

While the entire team was on full display, the quarterback battle between Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough and Jake Haener also took center stage, and Moore praised the entire QB room for their growth throughout the off-season.

“We have a good group. I think these guys have done an awesome, awesome job through this whole off-season process. They’re all are on the younger side, from an experience standpoint in this league, but they’re hungry. They’re ready. They’re really, really smart football players. They understand at a really high level. They have high capacity. They’re throwing it well out here, and so, I feel like they’re doing everything we can ask for,” Moore said in summation.
