(KRON) — Ryan Coogler, Oakland’s own and director of hit movies like “Sinners”, “Black Panther” and “Fruitvale Station”, is coming back to his home city to host an event with a special cause.

The promotional flyer, which was posted on social media, reads “DOPE ERA THUG THERAPY”, and says “THE COOG WILL BE IN THE BUILDING” at the event honoring Men’s Mental Awareness Health Month.

The venue will be Dezi’s Lounge which is located at 1759 Broadway St. The club is owned by Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B. who tells KRON4 that the event has been moved to Thursday, June 18. (Its original date was June 11.)

This past April, Coogler made a surprise appearance at Oakland’s Grand Lake Theatre for a private screening of his film “Sinners.”
