LSU baseball team, new Mike the Tiger float travels to Omaha for College World Series

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — LSU baseball fans sent off the team Wednesday as players and coaches travel to Omaha, Nebraska, for the College World Series.

Fans arrived outside of Alex Box Stadium near Gate 1 by 9:15 a.m. Buses took the team to the Baton Rouge airport at 9:30 a.m.

A 30-foot-long float designed by Kern Studios called “Mardi Gras Mike” could become a new LSU game day tradition. New Orleans-based Kern Studios has built custom floats for clients worldwide.

“We just thought it would be a great idea to bring Mike the Tiger to life as Mardi Gras Mike, and I think you’ll expect to see this wherever LSU fans are anywhere in the world. It’s built to travel, so it’s heading to Omaha right now, so it’s going to be up there with the team, and hopefully it’ll be part of a championship parade in Omaha and back here in Baton Rouge next week,” Kern Studios CEO Barry Kern said.

When do the Tigers play in the College World Series?

No. 6 seed LSU is set to play against No. 3 Arkansas at 6 p.m. CT Saturday, June 14.

Coach Jay Johnson said the fan response from the last three games makes him proud, adding he feels good about the future as the Tigers are set to play this weekend.

The Tigers beat West Virginia 12-5 Sunday night in the Baton Rouge Super Regional to advance to the College World Series for the 20th time in program history.
