Lincoln Park Zoo’s annual Run for the Zoo raises $20K for wildlife conservation

CHICAGO — The Lincoln Park Zoo hosted its annual Run for the Zoo on Sunday, drawing thousands of community members for a day of fitness and fundraising to support wildlife conservation.

About 4,500 runners and walkers participated in a 5K run/walk and a 10K run. There was also a Kids Course to keep children aged three to eight entertained.

The event raised over $20,000 total. Zoo officials emphasized the importance of Run for the Zoo, noting proceeds will go towards conservation efforts and keeping the zoo free for all.

The 5K and 10K routes wound through and around the zoo’s exhibits. After crossing the finish line, attendees were invited to a post-race celebration at the zoo’s Main Mall.

“Run for the Zoo is one of our favorite events of the year, because it brings together so many amazing animal lovers, runners, and zoo fans for a great morning of outdoor fun,” Meg Hein, Events Manager for the zoo, said.
