Tony Miller Jr. was found guilty in May of murder and attempted murder. On Wednesday, he was sentenced to 105 years in prison.
The pair were parked outside Miller’s mother’s house in the 9100 block of E. 38th Place on Nov. 18, 2022, when Miller opened fire. They had been at the home to pick up the former couple’s shared child.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears pointed out that despite the young girl being present at the time of the deadly shooting, Miller pulled the trigger without any consideration for her safety.
“The defendant’s decision to create a deadly situation is abhorrent, especially with his daughter in such close proximity, he not only endangered her life but exposed her to lifelong trauma,” said Mears. “No child should have to be exposed to this kind of violence, especially at the hands of their father.”
Miller’s ex was shot in the arm but survived the attempt on her life. Wilson wasn’t as lucky, rushed to hospital but dying from his injuries two days later.
Police with the Violent Crimes Unit caught up to Miller on Nov. 22, 2022, and took him into custody. License plate readers and cell phone data placed him at the scene of the deadly shooting as did the survivor, who identified her ex as the shooter.
During sentencing on Wednesday, Miller was hit with a habitual offender enhancement along with a felony firearm enhancement. These enhancements increased his sentence from 90 years to 105 years in prison.
