House fire burns two homes, damages total over $250,000

LINCOLN — A house fire Monday night caused over $250,000 in damages and scalded two homes.

According to a news release from the Idaho Falls Fire Department, they responded to a structure fire at 3676 Lorna Avenue around 3:17 p.m. on Monday after receiving a report of visible flames at the back of a house.

Firefighters reportedly arrived to find the home completely engulfed in flames, and the fire threatened a neighboring house. Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly, preventing the second home from being significantly damaged.

When firefighters arrived at the main house, the garage, back deck, and sections of the house were engulfed in flames, and a camper in the driveway also caught fire.

Using a ladder truck, several engines, and ambulances, fire crews were able to extinguish the fire completely by 4 p.m., and firefighters stayed on scene until around 6 p.m. They were called to the home again at 6:46 p.m. in response to a hot spot fire, which was put out by 7 p.m.

According to the news release, the main house sustained significant damage from fire and smoke, and the garage and back deck are considered a complete loss. The camper in the driveway also sustained considerable damage, making initial estimates of monetary damage at least $200,000.

Damage to the neighboring house was limited, with fire crews being able to stop the fire before it had time to burn through the exterior sheeting. The main losses at the second home were the exterior sheeting and siding, and smoke and heat damage to vehicles in the driveway, amounting to damages estimated at $50,000.

The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office also provided support on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the IFFD Fire Prevention and Investigation Division.
