The protest was held outside the Federal Detention Center on 7th and Arch Streets around 4 p.m., where approximately 150 protesters gathered.
According to Philadelphia Police, the protest marched from FDC to the ICE headquarters on 8th and Cherry Street at 5 p.m. before returning to the FDC at 5:30 p.m.
When they returned at 6:15 p.m., protesters became unruly, entering major roadways and using bicycles to obstruct officers, disrupting traffic and endangering public safety.”
At 6:45 p.m., the Philadelphia Police Civil Affairs Unit issued three lawful orders to disperse via megaphone.”
At 7 p.m., Protesters ignored these orders and continued blocking traffic, escalating their behavior,” becoming violent and extremely disorderly.”
Philadelphia Police say at 7:45 p.m, “order was restored”.
During this time, 15 people were arrested.
Police say two officers sustained minor injuries, as well as two of the females arrested. They all received medical attention.
One Philadelphia vehicle was spray-painted and vandalized.
While the unruly crowd has been dispersed, the protest is still ongoing, with Philadelphia Police reporting about 20 individuals peacefully gathered at FDC around 8 p.m.
