Court documents filed with the United States Attorney’s Office state that on May 28, 28-year-old Dominique Peeples was sentenced on a charge of sex trafficking of a minor.
The ruling comes five years after the incident happened.
Court documents stated that during the summer of 2020, Peeples traveled across southern states, from Memphis to New Orleans, Jackson, Mississippi and Houston, Texas, with a 17-year-old girl, requiring her to engage in commercial sexual activity.
Documents further stated, Peeples would advertise the girl on a website used for soliciting sex and would keep majority of her earnings.
This went on from August 2020 to January 2021 when she escaped. Following the escape, Peeples reportedly took to social media with a video boasting about his actions with a gun in hand.
He was arrested soon after.
Peeples has since been sentenced to 17 years in prison along with 10 years of supervised release. He is also required to pay $120,000 in restitution to the victim and pay a $100 mandatory assessment fee.
Two others arrested in the investigation were Jeremy Talbert and Maceo Roberts, who originally told Talbert and Peeples that he was “making money as a pimp” and offered to teach them.
The two pled guilty and Roberts received 22.5 years for conspiring to traffic three minors and two adults. In March, Talbert was sentenced to 18 years for trafficking a 14-year-old to New Orleans.
