According to a letter sent by the board to FOX59/CBS4, officials with the board said that they are waiting for Finkle to file “the appropriate paperwork” with the Shelby County Circuit Court. After this is completed, the board plans to host a meeting to accept Finkel’s resignation.
Finkel, who is also a former director of the Strand Theatre in Shelbyville, was the subject of an FBI search on June 5. According to previous reports,
The board said in the letter that this resignation request “serves in the best interests of our students, staff and the broader community.”
“As an elected official, Mr. Finkel’s position could not be directly intervened upon by the Board; however, we acknowledge that the best course of action is for him to step down,” the letter read. “We would like to add that this is a personal issue and not conduct involving the school district.
“We are prepared to move forward and remain committed to restoring trust and focusing on the continued success of Shelbyville Central Schools,” the letter continued. “This has been a challenging time, and we appreciate the community’s patience and support as we work together to move beyond it.”
