Angel Delao and Ricky Guzman live in Sweetwater but work in Fisher County. Guzman described the scene he saw as he drove in on Monday morning for work.
“Lots of trees down. I mean, even just driving down the highway. Within ten feet of the road, just lots of trees. We did see a couple of houses where some of the roof was torn off,” Guzman recalled. “It was pretty bad. Yeah. I mean, maybe it seemed like a tornado might have come through.”
The two, along with their coworkers, helped with the damage cleanup, and for Delao, it was a Déjà vu moment.
“Recently, a few weeks ago in Sweetwater, we had a high, high wind storm, as well as some personal property damage. It was a brick wall that fell down, and trees were broken down there as well,” Delao said.
While cutting down trees and digging through the soaked wood, Delao said he is happy to pay the act of kindness shared with him forward.
“I had a lot of help offered to come and help me clean up my mess. So, it felt right to come back and clean and do it for somebody else,” Delao said.
We spoke to several community members who experienced damage, but they chose not to participate in an interview.
