Red, Purple Line service disrupted after man fatally hit by train

CHICAGO (WGN) — Authorities are conducting a death investigation on Tuesday morning after a man was fatally struck by a Chicago Transit Authority train on the North Side.

Chicago police say the incident unfolded along the tracks in the 1100 block of West Granville Avenue in Edgewater, near the Granville station.

Officers say an adult male was struck by a Red Line train in the area and was later pronounced dead on the scene.

Authorities have not said what led up to the incident or identified the individual killed.

A death investigation is currently underway.

The incident caused some service disruptions for commuters on Tuesday morning.

According to the Chicago Transit Authority, Red Line, Purple Line and Purple Line Express trains have been halted between Howard and Wilson due to a medical emergency on the tracks.

Because of the emergency, officials said trains are only operating between Wilson and 95th currently.

To accommodate the disruption, the CTA has requested shuttle buses from Howard to Wilson to connect service through the impacted area.

Officials advise commuters to consider other services or alternative routes such as the #151 Sheridan, #36 Broadway or #22 Clark bus routes.

It is unclear how long the disruptions will last.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact CPD Area Three Detectives at 312-744-8263 or dial 911.
