BOND COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — A man is dead after State Police said he got out of a Carle ambulance and was hit by a semi-truck in Southern Illinois.
The incident happened just before 3 a.m. Monday morning. Officials said the ambulance was transporting the man on Interstate 70 when he became combative. The ambulance then stopped on the shoulder near the exit to Illinois Route 127.
As the ambulance was stopped, officials said the man got out of the ambulance and ran into a lane of traffic, where a semi-truck hit him. The man was transported again, this time with injuries from the pedestrian strike, but was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
The incident is still under investigation.
