JOLIET, Ill. — A fire that broke out at a Joliet apartment complex displaced the residents of a dozen units on Tuesday morning.

According to officials from the Joliet Fire Department, crews were first called to the scene at the Twin Oaks West Apartment complex, located in the 115 block of Essington Road, around 8:15 a.m.

Officials said the fire broke out inside a three-story building that housed 12 units. When crews arrived, they found the building engulfed in flames and said it appeared there were heavy flames in the attic.

During the fight, crews and a bystander helped three people escape after they became trapped.

In total, seven residents were treated on the scene for minor injuries, but nobody was transported to the hospital.

SkyCam 9 was over the scene around 9:25 a.m. when crews could be seen working to put out any remaining hot spots.

From overhead, the building’s roof appeared to have been badly damaged in the fire.

Officials say all of the residents in the building were displaced by the fire and emergency management crews are working on providing them shelter.

Currently, it is unclear what sparked the fire.
