Herd of 60 cows set loose in the East Bay: Animal Services

(KRON) — A herd of roughly 60 cows were allegedly freed from their enclosure in Antioch around 2 a.m. Sunday, according to Antioch Animal Services.

The cows got loose near the intersection of James Donlon Boulevard and Gentrytown Drive.

“It appears an unknown someone or someones set approximately 60 cattle loose … at a great risk to public safety,” Antioch Animal Services shared on social media Monday. “Striking a large animal with a vehicle can be fatal. Thankfully, no accidents have happened.”

The rancher, Antioch Police Department and local citizens are working to round up the loose cattle. However, more cows are still on the loose. Two of the escaped bulls were spotted wandering the third hole at the Lone Tree golf course Monday morning.

The public is asked to report any loose cow sightings to the Antioch Police Department’s non-emergency line: (925) 778-2441.
