LAFAYETTE, La. (
KLFY) — Those who enjoy the public swimming pool at Girard Park will have to wait a bit longer to dive in this year.
Lafayette’s Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Culture Department has announced in a news release that the pool was unable to reopen on Monday as originally scheduled due to an unexpected pump failure on Saturday.
“Repairs to the failed pump are underway, and the pool is now projected to open on Monday, June 23, 2025, pending equipment delivery and no further issues,” the release read. “We understand the community’s anticipation—especially since the pool has not been open since summer 2019—and we are close to making this long-awaited reopening a reality.”
Officials said improvements to the pool have been made, including:
- Replacement of lifeguard chairs
- New entry ladders for improved pool access
- Fresh paint for enhanced safety and clear depth markings
- Repairs to cracks in the inner pool foundation
- Operational upgrades, including pump replacements
