LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — June’s full moon, also known as the Strawberry Moon, will be the lowest full moon that has appeared in the night sky in nearly 20 years.
The moon will be visible in the sky Tuesday night and the morning of June 11, rising around 8:30 p.m. EST and peaking at around 3:45 a.m.
The Strawberry Moon’s name doesn’t come from its color but rather from its appearance, originally occurring around the time of the summer strawberry harvest.
The 2025 Strawberry Moon is special because it will appear during a major lunar standstill, an event that occurs approximately every 18 to 19 years, during which the moon appears lower in the sky.
Tuesday night’s forecast will bring optimal viewing conditions with a mainly clear sky expected. Wildfire smoke is back in the region and likely provides hazy skies but shouldn’t obstruct the view.
