JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The 19-year-old accused of killing a 15-year-old in Jackson will remain in custody after he turned himself in to police.

Michael Tate, Jr., was denied bond during his initial court appearance on Tuesday, June 10. The judge declared that Tate was a flight risk and a danger to the community.

Police said Tate was charged with murder in connection to the shooting death of Zacarius Berry, 15.

Berry’s body was located in the 200 block of Rutherford B. Hayes Circle on May 23. Wade said the victim was supposed to graduate from middle school.

At the time of the shooting, police said Tate was out on bond in connection to two auto thefts.
