Dedication ceremony held for Syracuse LDS Temple

SYRACUSE, Utah (ABC4) — President Russell M. Nelson of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officially dedicated the Syracuse, Utah Temple on Sunday.

The Syracuse Temple is the 24th LDS temple in Utah and the 206th operating temple of the church. President Nelson announced the temple during the April 2020 General Conference session. The groundbreaking was held on June 12, 2021, with a public open house held in May of this year.

Before the dedication prayer, President Nelson remarked the home city of the new temple to Syracuse, Italy, where the Apostle Paul “tarried… three days” on his way towards Rome.

The dedication ceremony was broadcast to local meetinghouses within the area of the temple. President Nelson was accompanied by his wife, Wendy, along with Elder Quentin L. Cook and his wife Mary, Elder Kevin R. Duncan and his wife Nancy, and Elder Hugo E. Martinez and his wife Nuria.

Four temples are currently under construction in Utah, with those being in Ephraim, Heber Valley, Lindon and Smithfield. The Provo Utah Rock Canyon Temple and Salt Lake Temple are currently under renovation, while temples in Lehi, Price and West Jordan were announced in 2024. Another temple in Spanish Fork was announced in April of this year.
