Indiana got significant contributions from players across its rotation. Guard Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever in scoring with 17 points
Center Aliyah Boston and forward Natasha Howard both scored in double figures, racking up 11 and 13 points, respectively. Indiana also got 12 points from backup point guard Aari McDonald.
Indiana signed McDonald to a hardship contract six days ago. The Fever were able to sign McDonald because they had less than 10 game-eligible players available for their matchup against Mystics on June 3. Indiana will have to cut McDonald after some of its players return from injury.
Guard Caitlin Clark and forward Sophie Cunningham both missed Indiana’s matchup with the Sky on Saturday. Clark sat out her fourth consecutive contest with a quad injury, and Cunningham missed her second straight game with an ankle issue.
Indiana was also without its head coach, Stephanie White. The Fever reported that White missed Saturday’s game for “personal reasons.” Assistant Austin Kelly was Indiana’s acting head coach during the contest.
Despite the notable absences, the Fever managed to beat the Sky and move to 4-4 on the season.
Much of the Fever’s success on Saturday can be attributed to their efforts on the defensive end of the floor. Indiana did not allow a single Sky player to score in double figures.
Chicago’s best offensive contributors were center Kamilla Cardoso and backup guard Rebecca Allen, who both scored eight points.
Forward Angel Reese finished the game with four points and 12 rebounds.
Indiana will travel to Atlanta for a matchup with the 5-3 Dream on Tuesday. The contest will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
