The runoff election on June 7, 2025 saw voters deciding between incumbent Kyle McAlister and Challenger Miguel Espinoza. Results released by the Taylor County elections office reveal McAlister to have received 41.76% of the vote with a total of 1,655 votes. And first-time challenger Espinoza received 58.24% of the vote with 2,308 votes.
McAlister served on the Abilene city council for 4 terms, 12 years total. Espinoza will be serving his first term on the Abilene City Council. This win is his first time serving in public office.
Espinoza and McAlister extend their gratitude to the Abilene voters for their participation and support. Espinoza saying he looks forward to taking on the challenges that come with the office, hoping to bring renewed civic involvement to the public.
