MBI investigates Jefferson County officer-involved shooting

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Agents with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Jefferson County.

Bailey Martin, press secretary for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety (DPS), said officers responded to a local hospital regarding a woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers gathered information from the victim and went to a residence on Crosby Road.

When officers arrived, they said the unidentified suspect displayed a firearm, which resulted in a shootout between the suspect and the law enforcement officers. Martin said the suspect sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.

According to Martin, the shooting involved Jefferson County deputies, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), and the Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP). No officers were injured during the shooting.

MBI will share their findings of the investigation with the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office.
