FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The coroner’s office has identified the man killed in a crash in Fresno County on Thursday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said the crash happened on Thursday at around 7 a.m. in the area of Buttonwillow and American avenues.
During the incident, a man died at the scene – the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified that man as 28-year-old Efrain Lara Jr. of Farmersville. CHP initially reported the man was from Exeter.
An investigation revealed that a 64-year-old woman from Reedley was driving a Toyota Prius on American Avenue when she entered the intersection to make a left turn onto Buttonwillow Avenue.
At the same time, officers report Lara Jr. was driving a Honda Accord on Buttonwillow Avenue, which has no traffic controls at the intersection. The Toyota then entered the intersection directly in the path of the Honda.
Lara Jr. reportedly braked and steered left to try to avoid the collision, but the front of both cars collided. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman driving the Toyota was airlifted to the hospital – her condition is unknown at this time.
