The work will remove heavy equipment and wood debris left on the seafloor next to the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf following the disaster.
“This material was deposited during the major storm event in December 2024, which caused significant damage to the south end of the Wharf,” the City of Santa Cruz said in a statement Friday.
While crews are actively working in the area, the actual underwater removal will happen Saturday. The city expects to complete the project on Sunday.
“This complex effort has been delayed until now due to the need for a window of calm sea conditions,” the City of Santa Cruz said. “Favorable marine weather forecasts now allow the operation to proceed.”
The U.S. Coast Guard is asking beachgoers, swimmers, and boaters to stay at least 300 feet away from any dive flags used during the removal. The location of the dive flags will chance and the project is completed.
