The Elko County Sheriff’s Department in Nevada has identified a man found deceased on train tracks as 24-year-old James “Ivy” Woods, a resident of Shreveport.
On June 2, 2025, around 4:30 a.m., Elko Central Dispatch received a call from a woman who reported that her friend might have fallen off a train.
According to the Sheriff’s office, James and the woman had been traveling unlawfully on the train when they made their journey toward Utah.
The woman says that they had jumped onto the train together, but shortly after, she fell asleep. When she woke up, she realized James was missing and immediately contacted the police for help.
Sheriff’s deputies, along with personnel from the Union Pacific Railroad, began a search for James.
Tragically, around 6:35 a.m., a railroad employee discovered him on the tracks.
The Sheriff’s office reported that James had suffered fatal injuries after being struck by the train during his fall, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
