Where Y’at this Weekend: NOLA Public Library, Creole Tomato Fest, House of Blues, 34 Restaurant & Bar

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — June has arrived, and it’s a great time of year to enjoy the celebrations that make our city such a unique place. This weekend is no different, with a festival around the delicious Creole Tomato, a party celebrating Portuguese culture and much more: here are Where Y’at’s picks!
  • First, summer fun is here through the New Orleans Public Library’s Reading Challenge Program. Log achievements, win prizes and read, read, read! Complete your blackout bingo card and win a limited-edition tote bag. Pick up your registration prize Thursday, June 5, at your neighborhood library.
  • The free Creole Tomato Fest returns for its 39th annual rendition in the French Market. Walk through the French Market and discover Creole tomatoes for sale, Creole tomato food booths, live music with Charmaine Neville and others and activities for the entire family.
  • Next, a night of burlesque awaits on Saturday, June 7, at the House of Blues with a special performance by Inferno Burlesque. The hottest burlesque show in town also features variety and drag acts. Grab dinner before the show in the House of Blues restaurant to make it a full night on the town.
  • Finally, on Sunday, June 8, head to Emeril Lagasse’s 34 Restaurant & Bar in the Warehouse District for a Portugal Day Celebration featuring Portuguese food, drinks and music. Salute Portuguese heritage with bites like suckling pig and pasteis de nata along with unique Portuguese cocktails.

Looking for a spot to dine out with friends and family this weekend? Then pick up the Where Y’at Magazine Summer Restaurant Guide issue, with a rundown of some of the hottest restaurants in town, as well as look at the city’s “world’s famous baked ham” and the restaurant that has been serving it for almost 90 years.
