It was a far cooler, mostly dreary and soggy day across the Chicago area Wednesday. The high temperatures occurred just after midnight with most of the day spent in the lower to middle 60s, a level more than 20 degrees cooler than the same time Tuesday.
In typical summer fashion, rainfall varied greatly depending on location but most of us received beneficial rainfall. The heaviest amounts occurred in northwest Illinois, where amounts topped 3 inches. Both city locations received totals in excess of 0.50 inch.

Some areas in the far north and northwest suburbs saw some peeks of sunshine late in the day, but officially at Midway Airport there was none as of early Wednesday evening.
