Kasey Rowley, 28, was shot to death in a Hernando, Mississippi, house on May 16.
Hernando officers responded at 10:30 p.m. for a welfare check call on Magnolia Ridge. They found Rowley’s body with gunshot wounds in a back bedroom, and she was pronounced dead on the scene.
“My daughter was murdered, and she was murdered by her fiancé,” said Mary Rowley, mother of Kasey Rowley.
Police have not confirmed that information.
The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office told WREG the man shot himself to death in a nearby boat ramp on May 15 at 6:30 p.m., hours before Kasey was found dead.
The mother said that when she found out about his, she became worried about her daughter and went to her house.
She said the backdoor was open and was scared that the man had killed Kasey and then himself.
“I can’t imagine him shooting her in here and leaving her, but when I went in there and saw my baby laid down on that rug. I could tell she had been deceased for hours,” said Mary.
She said Kasey and the man were engaged, but his financial problems began to take a toll on Kasey in the last few months.
Mary said Kasey worked two jobs as a registered nurse while her ex-fiance was struggling to keep a job and pay his child support from previous relationships.
“The main thing that made her flip the script is when she cut him off financially,” said Mary. “She cut him off completely because he didn’t have any money, but she would still help him get gas and things like that.”
Mary said that Kasey was hoping to find a relationship like her and her husband Tony, who had worked as an investigator for the Tate County Sheriff’s Office and passed away last July from a cardiac arrest.
The Hernando Police Department has not confirmed that the incident was a murder-suicide. They told WREG that they are still investigating the incident and declined our request for an interview.
