MetroCare may move near south Abilene neighborhood, says siren use will be limited

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – MetroCare Ambulance Service is looking to move into a suite at the River Oaks Village. That’s the shopping center on South 14th and Willis Street where the United Supermarkets store is located. However, with this being located next to a neighborhood, what about the noise from the sirens when they respond to an emergency?

The shopping center is situated next to a residential neighborhood. Upon full operationalization, it will serve as an ambulance deployment center with crews working 24-hour shifts and 12 personnel reporting to the location. A representative from Metro Care told the planning and zoning board that a plan is in place to address the noise.

“We do have a policy already on when and where they can start their sirens and lights to decrease the impact on the residential area behind them, until they get to the main access roads,” James Bryant told the board.

They chose the location because it is centrally located, allowing for faster response times. No vehicle maintenance will be performed at the location, nor will any medical services be provided. The planning and zoning board approved the move, and it will now go to the Abilene City Council for their approval.
