Large brush fire in Crockett fueled by early morning high winds

CROCKETT, Calif. (KRON) — Firefighters in the East Bay responded to a brush fire early Thursday morning. The fire burned approximately 6.6 acres in Crockett before coming under control, according to fire officials.

The fire was reported around 3 a.m. in a remote area off of Cummings Skyway and San Pablo Avenue. Multiple agencies assisted in stopping the forward progress of the flames. Despite gusty winds, the high humidity in the area helped in preventing the wildfire from spreading to a larger area.

Fire crews remain on site Thursday to monitor hot spots. As of 7 a.m., officials said the fire is considered 60 percent contained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
