According to a news release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, 35-year-old Clarence White was taken into custody on Wednesday on preliminary charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon.
At around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with IMPD’s north district were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 3700 block of N. Pennsylvania Street on a reported shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as 39-year-old Kia Robinson, who was later pronounced dead from a gunshot wound.
According to previous reports, an adult man was also found at the scene with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to an area hospital in stable, but serious, condition. Several other people inside the apartment were reportedly uninjured.
Court documents state that a witness told detectives on the scene that he was awoken by gunfire in the apartment and saw a masked person. The witness reportedly recognized the mask because it was one that White reportedly took from him within the last two weeks. A second witness also identified the masked person as White after he reportedly took off his mask.
On Wednesday, detectives located him in the 6500 block of E 82nd Street. The release said that when White was apprehended, he reportedly had a firearm in his possession. At the time, White reportedly claimed he was “nowhere near” the apartment when Robinson was killed. White reportedly told police that he had a gun for protection.
The release said the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision. Officials with IMPD said that at this time, a booking photo is not available.
