VISALIA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A road in Visalia was closed after a fire that started Wednesday afternoon was threatening nearby homes, according to the Visalia Fire Department.

Fire crews responded to a grass fire in the area of Hurley Avenue and Preston Street in Visalia at around 4 p.m.; crews on scene described it as posing an immediate risk to nearby homes.

In a later update, Visalia Fire reported the fire had burned around 1.5 acres and crews had made solid progress bringing it under control. However, the fire had destroyed one vehicle, one outbuilding, and damaged two residential structures.

Firefighters say heavy overhaul operations are underway and Hurley Avenue remains closed in both directions.

This is an ongoing investigation.
