On Wednesday, officials confirmed their lioness Pely passed away at 24 years old.
“We have been doing quality of life evaluations daily because of her age and it finally came time to say goodbye,” the nonprofit’s social media read.
Those who worked or had a chance to interact with Pely describe her as full of love and impacted all who met her.
“We were all with her and she gave me a headbutt and lion talk and put her head in Wendy’s lap one last time,” the post continued.
The cat haven says Pely came to them 20 years ago, not as a rescue, but because she was not getting along with her other pride members. The nonprofit says it was the best decision they’ve made, as Pely was an outstanding example of the impact these cats have on people.
“She taught many people what being a lion was all about. Being a part of Pely’s pride was a blessing. She was the perfect ambassador for her wild cousins,” the post concluded.
