‘Do-nut’ miss these deals: How to celebrate National Donut Day in Central Illinois

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — The first Friday in June marks the sweetest day of the year for donut lovers, and Central Illinois sweet shops are making sure they aren’t left behind.

In honor of National Donut Day on June 6, several local businesses — and national chains — are offering sweet deals to customers. Here’s where you can find those deals:

Parlor donuts in Champaign is offering a $1 Carnival Doughnut with any regular purchase in-store. For customers who prefer online offers, use the code 5off for $5 off a classic assorted dozen.

Industrial Donut

Dunkin’

Dunkin’ will be celebrating National Donut Day by offering a free classic donut with any beverage purchased on June 6.

Krispy Kreme

Krispy Kreme customers can receive any doughnut of their choice for free on National Donut Day – no purchase is necessary. And guests who purchase any dozen at regular price can receive a dozen Original Glazed doughnuts for just $2.

7-Eleven

On National Donut Day, 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can get a classic glazed donut for 50-cents at participating 7-ElevenSpeedway and Stripes locations. Afterwards, the glazed donuts will be available for $1 until June 24.

Casey’s

Casey’s will offer free donuts for rewards members on National Donut Day.

National Donut Day got its start in Illinois with the Salvation Army. According to Decatur’s Salvation Army branch, the Salvation Army in Chicago celebrated the first National Donut Day in 1938 to raise money for those in need during the Great Depression and in honor of the Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” who traveled to the front lines during World War I and served donuts and boosted spirits.

So, in honor of National Donut Day, Decatur’s Salvation Army is partnering with Giggles on Merchant and Big Hungry’s in Mt. Zion. Interested community members can contact both stores by phone to place a pre-order for June 6 donuts or stop by and grab a box of donuts that they have ready in their store.

In Champaign, the Salvation Army and volunteers will make 55 stops throughout the county, delivering 60 boxes of Parlor Donuts beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The Salvation Army said donuts will be delivered to first responders and community partners.
