On National Donut Day, 7Rewards and Speedy Rewards members can get a classic glazed donut for 50-cents at participating 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes locations. Afterwards, the glazed donuts will be available for $1 until June 24.
Casey’s will offer free donuts for rewards members on National Donut Day.
National Donut Day got its start in Illinois with the Salvation Army. According to Decatur’s Salvation Army branch, the Salvation Army in Chicago celebrated the first National Donut Day in 1938 to raise money for those in need during the Great Depression and in honor of the Salvation Army “Donut Lassies” who traveled to the front lines during World War I and served donuts and boosted spirits.
So, in honor of National Donut Day, Decatur’s Salvation Army is partnering with Giggles on Merchant and Big Hungry’s in Mt. Zion. Interested community members can contact both stores by phone to place a pre-order for June 6 donuts or stop by and grab a box of donuts that they have ready in their store.
In Champaign, the Salvation Army and volunteers will make 55 stops throughout the county, delivering 60 boxes of Parlor Donuts beginning at 8:30 a.m. Friday. The Salvation Army said donuts will be delivered to first responders and community partners.
