Elwood police crews were called around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday by a tipster who said two juveniles had been at the Mary Beth Aquatics Center the day before and that they were carrying guns in their backpack.
EPD contacted the city pool and determined that the two teens, both males, were back again at the pool. Officers contacted the guardians of the two juveniles and alerted them of the situation.
Officers then met the juveniles’ guardians outside the pool facility and got permission to search the children’s backpacks. Inside, officers reportedly found a loaded AR-style rifle and a loaded semi-automatic handgun.
Both juveniles – ages 15 and 17 – were then detained and booked into the Madison County Juvenile Detention Facility on preliminary charges of Child in Possession of a Firearm.
No other information was immediately provided by EPD. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
