Tuesday almanac: Warmest June 3rd in more than a half century

Temperatures soared to the second-warmest levels of 2025 so far Tuesday afternoon, just missing 90 degrees at both major airports. Only the 94 degree high back on May 15 has been any warmer. 

What’s even more remarkable is the 89 degree high temperature made this the warmest June 3 here in 53 years, since 1972 when the mercury soared to 94 degrees. 

The warmth was accompanied by a gusty south to southwest wind that pushed the summerlike readings up to area beaches. 

We enjoyed a little more than half the day’s possible sunshine.

A line of gusty thunderstorms just after lunchtime impacted mainly northwest sections of the viewing area with some 50-60 mph wind gusts and brief heavy downpours.

Tuesday Departures from normal  

Brief surge in temperatures across the Midwest and Great Lakes as evidenced by the departure from normal map. Much cooler air in the Plains is eastbound and arrives on Wednesday.  

Pollen Count

First time this season all the major pollen categories were reported with grass and tree pollen being the biggest nuisance for allergy sufferers.
