Tayonne T. Tevis, 29, was arrested by the Richmond Police Department on May 26 and officially charged the next day with dealing cocaine, narcotics possession, controlled substance possession and marijuana possession. He was then booked into jail on a $30,000 surety bond.
Online court records show that Tevis’ bond was paid on Monday, June 2, and that he was subsequently released from jail. It was less than one day after his bond was paid that Tevis was again arrested on similar charges.
Richmond police said that, around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers pulled over a driver for a traffic stop in the 1st block of S. 14th Street. K9 units were reportedly called to the scene and indicated that narcotics were inside the car.
Upon searching the car, officers reportedly found crack cocaine, heroin, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia.
Two people were arrested during the incident: 22-year-old Destiny A. Moore and 29-year-old Tevis.
In a post on Facebook, Richmond Police addressed the fact that Tevis had been arrested yet again.
“Tayonne again? Yes. He was arrested just last week on drug dealing charges,” the post read. “Some folks just can’t stay out of the backseat of our patrol cars.”
While official charges have yet to be filed in the case, RPD said that Tevis and Moore were both booked into jail on multiple drug possession charges. Jail records show that Tevis’s bond has initially been set at $11,250 and that Moore’s has been set at $7,500.
“When it comes to drug enforcement, we’re not backing down,” Chief Kyle Weatherly said in a statement. “If the first arrest doesn’t get your attention, the second one will. Our team remains committed to getting dangerous substances and repeat offenders off the streets.”
Online court records do not show whether an initial hearing has been scheduled in Tevis’ original drug case. Official charges have yet to be filed in his second arrest.
Records do show that Tevis has an extensive criminal history in Indiana, having been criminally charged at least 13 times since 2012. His previous charges include theft, resisting law enforcement, driving while intoxicated, controlled substance possession, cocaine dealing, marijuana dealing and more.
Records also show Moore has been charged with lesser crimes in the past, including unlawful minor tobacco possession, speeding and seat belt violations.
