McCordsville dentist qualifies for US Open at Oakmont

McCORDSVILLE, Ind. — A McCordsville dentist qualified for the 2025 U.S. Open at Oakmont County Club this week.

Matthew Vogt — the founder of The Dentists at Gateway Crossing — shot eight under par in two rounds at Wine Valley Golf Club in Walla Walla, Washington, to secure a spot in the 125th U.S. Open. He shot 4-under-par 68 in both rounds he played.

Brady Calkins of Chehalis, Washington, was the other player that earned a spot in the U.S. Open during qualifying at Wine Valley Golf Club.

According to the practice’s website, The Dentists at Gateway Crossing was started by Vogt in 2018 “with the goal of providing quality modern dental care and an exceptional patient experience.”

Vogt’s bio on the dental practice’s website indicates he was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but now lives in Indiana with his wife and two rescue dogs. Per his bio, Vogt received a Bachelor of Science from Butler University and a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Indiana University School of Dentistry.

A report from The Associated Press indicates Vogt was a caddie at Oakmont before he became a dentist in Indiana.

Vogt was one of 47 players to qualify for the U.S. Open this week. Wine Valley Golf Club was one of 10 courses that hosted U.S. Open qualifying.

Some of the players who earned their spot in the U.S. Open this week have appeared in numerous PGA Tour events over the years. Among this week’s most notable qualifiers are Erik Van Rooyen, Lanto Griffin, Cameron Young, Thorbjorn Olesen, Emiliano Grillo, Matt Wallace, Mark Hubbard, Zac Blair and Marc Leishman.

The 2025 U.S. Open will begin June 12 and run through June 15. More information on this week’s U.S. Open qualifiers are available here.
