According to the Belvidere Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 700 block of John Street around 1:17 p.m. for a report of wires sparking and causing a fire.
Authorities said a downed power line extending from a utility pole to the home caused electrical arcing, which started the fire.
Officials said the fire was put out by 2:07 p.m. and ComEd were able to disconnect the power.
The Belvidere Fire Department reminds residents to stay clear of power lines and report electrical hazards.
