Coast Guard searches for missing man around Westwego

WESTWEGO, La. (WGNO) — The United States Coast Guard is currently searching for a man in the Westwego area after he reportedly fell off of a crane barge.

According to Lt. Preston Stroebel, around 11:15 p.m., a call reported that a man had fallen off of the barge while working for an agricultural company at mile marker 110. A Coast Guard crew looked for the man for seven hours overnight before swapping out with a new crew to continue the search.

Due to the speed of the current around six miles per hour, the search was extended 20 miles downriver from where the call initially came in.
