Google layoffs
Search giant Google will be cutting 53 jobs in total across four different locations in Sunnyvale. The Google layoffs were processed on Thursday and are set to take effect on July 6. All the layoffs are permanent, according to a WARN notice filed with the EDD.
Microsoft layoffs
Microsoft also continues to cut jobs in the Bay Area. In the latest state filings, the tech company announced 8 layoffs across two different locations — one in Sunnyvale and one in Mountain View. The Microsoft layoffs were processed on Monday and will take effect on August 1.
Cruise layoffs
Cruise, General Motors’ abandoned robotaxi project, laid off a single employee at its Bryant Street office in San Francisco. This follows the company laying off half its employees earlier this year following an announcement from the automaker that it was pulling out of the robotaxi business.
Walmart layoffs
Walmart also announced job cuts at its eCommerce Corporate facility in San Bruno. The retail giant will be laying off 106 employees at the facility. The job cuts, which are permanent according to the filing, were processed last week and will take effect on August 22.
All in total, the latest round of job cuts will see 169 workers lose their jobs. This week’s announced layoffs follow similar job cuts last month from LinkedIn, which cut over 280 Bay Area jobs and Hewlett Packard, which cut 61 jobs in San Jose.
