Man pleads guilty in death of 2-year-old Jackson girl

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A man pled guilty in connection to the death of a two-year-old girl in Jackson.

Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens announced that Jermarcus Kelly, 23, pled guilty to first-degree murder.

Jackson police said the girl was found unresponsive and severely injured at a home on Troy Avenue. On or around March 5, 2022, the child was rushed to the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC). She was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Investigators said the child suffered extensive physical abuse while in the care of Kelly.

Kelly was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
