ELKO COUNTY, Nevada (ABC4) — A Louisiana man was killed after falling off a train traveling through Nevada to Utah. He was found in a Nevada city roughly 50 miles away from the Utah border.
24-year-old James “Ivy” Woods, from Shreveport, Louisiana, was identified as the victim.
According to the Elko County Sheriff’s Office, they received a call from a woman on June 2 around 4:35 a.m. She told police that she and her friend “unlawfully jumped” onto a train near Elko, Nevada.
Law enforcement said that she told them she fell asleep after boarding, and when she woke up, Woods was missing. Sheriff’s deputies and Union Pacific Railroad personnel began searching the train tracks around the area where he may have fallen.
Around 6:35 a.m., a Union Pacific Railroad employee discovered Woods’ body on the tracks near Wells, Nevada, roughly 50 miles from Elko, Nevada. The sheriff’s office said that he was hit by the train as he fell off and sustained “fatal injuries.”
